"A passion for quality" - this motto is Käfer's key to success. The once small Munich-based family business has grown into a globally active enterprise. The idea of finding first-rate and innovative products from all around the world and presenting them to local connoisseurs and gourmets is a principle that Käfer has been consistently pursuing since 1930.
1933 Käfer moves from the original company building to the Prinzregentenstraße
The founding stone was laid by Elsa and Paul Käfer on 16 May 1930 with the opening of a colonial-style grocers shop with wines, liquors and bottled beer in the Amalienstraße in Schwabing. Three years later, they moved to today's company building in the Prinzregentenstraße at the corner of Schumannstraße.
1959 "Invention" of the "Party Service" by Gerd Käfer
Our Party Service has grown to become Europe's no. 1 market leader in the field. The "inventor" was Gerd Käfer, who offered "service in perfection". All-round customer service, from the planning phase to execution at the very highest level is what made the Käfer Party Service so famous.
1963 Management of theatre catering services at the National Theatre
By taking on the catering services in the lobby of the "Prince Regent Theatre", Paul Käfer opened up an entirely new area of business for Käfer back in the late 1950s. Today, the company is represented in several of Munich's state theatres, such as the German National Theatre.
1970 Expansion of the parent company with the restaurant "Käfer-Schänke"
The elegant, rustic restaurant Käfer-Schänke in the traditional principal company building in Prinzregentenstraße accommodates 250 guests. 12 separate, individually decorated parlour rooms for two to 50 persons are available for undisturbed business meals or private receptions. As in all other areas of our company, highest quality and perfect service has uppermost priority at Käfer-Schänke.
Käfer with its Käfer Wies’n-Schänke has been a tradition at Munich's Oktoberfest since 1971. Due to its ever-growing popularity, the original Bavarian farmhouse has been expanded over the years from its original 40 seats to 1,100 inside seats and 1,950 seats in the outdoors. Our Wies'n-Schänke is particularly well known for its high-quality menu containing a large selection of regional snacks and meals as well as for its famous mug boasting new motifs every year.

1991 Construction of the premises in Parsdorf
A former staff outlet in Parsdorf was the basis for the development of the concept for the Käfer deli markets. The loft-style cash-n-carry market with its self-service concept and "non-present" specialist customer advisers, offers customers parts of the Käfer delicatessen range at very favourable prices. The offering extends from pasta, oils, sauces and wines to presents, boutique items as well as fresh food and dairy products.
1992 Establishment of Käfer Shops in the Japanese department store chain Mitsukoshi
The Japanese also appreciate the things we love in our western cultures: The renowned Japanese department store opened its own shops for Käfer presents and specialities such as typical sausage products at 15 of its national locations. These products are manufactured in Japan and licensed by Käfer.
1995 Michael Käfer becomes sole managing director.
After his father, Gerd Käfer, leaves the management board in 1995, Michael Käfer purchases his shares and becomes sole managing director and CEO of the company.
Since the opening of the new Messe München in Riem, Käfer Service GmbH has been providing catering services to the eastern section of the fair facilities. Here, the company operates three service restaurants, three self-service restaurants, two cafés and several "snack & drink" bars. The fundamental idea behind the various catering concepts is based on the international character of Messe München, which Käfer would like to reflect in its catering offer as well as in the uncomplicated, light meals with fresh ingredients and fast service.

2005 Establishment of Fashion Food France
Käfer acquires many of its products from Europe and abroad directly via its own purchasing company Fashion Food France from the Rungis Food Market in Paris, one of the largest and most significant food markets in the world.
